Changing the Color, Fabric or Length of a Blank: What It Takes

Many brands find a blank that is almost right: the fit works, but they want it in their own color, a different fabric, or a little longer or shorter. Because we make our blanks ourselves in Los Angeles, that kind of change does not mean starting from scratch.

Small changes to a style we already make

A new color, a different fabric or a different length on one of our existing styles uses the pattern we already have. That keeps it simple:

  • Minimum: 100 pieces per color, per style. Two colors of the same style is 200 pieces; the same color in two styles is also 200.
  • Timing: about 2–3 weeks.
  • Sizes: split the 100 pieces across sizes however you need.

Good places to start: our baby tees, tanks, crewnecks, hoodies and activewear.

When you need full custom cut and sew instead

If the garment needs a new pattern, such as a new silhouette, new seams or a fit we do not make, it is a custom cut and sew order:

  • Minimum: 200 pieces per style, with at least 100 pieces per color within that style.
  • Sample: $200–250, ready in about 1.5–2 weeks.
  • Production: 4–6 weeks after you approve the sample.

Private label, with your own sewn-in label, is part of custom orders. See custom cut and sew and the custom FAQ for the full process.

Which one is right for you?

If you can point at one of our styles and say "this, but in…", it is almost always a small change: a lower minimum and a faster turnaround. If you are describing a garment we do not make, it is custom. Not sure? Send us a photo or a style number and we will tell you which it is.
